What was there to see in July? The chicks are growing under the protection of the parents and more insects were flying although the numbers of butterflies were low.
All photographs were taken in and around Swan Valley Lake Park during the month of July. The park is a small nature reserve in the Blackwater Valley on the outskirts of Sandhurst. There is a huge variety of bird and insect life and if you are lucky you may even see an occassional deer or fox.
The grebe chicks vary in size from the tiny still riding on their mother’s back to ones that are nearly adult size. The parents were busy catching fish.

The most commonly seen bird is probably the coot. They can often be heard squabbling with the neighbours.

A few more butterflies were spotted although the total number of sightings was disappointingly low. There were quite a few odonata especially the Black Tailed Skimmer.
